Inflation rate drops to 2.1% in June

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that the annual rate of inflation fell to 2.1% in June from 2.4% in May, which was its highest level so far this year.

The CSO said that prices increased by 0.3% in June compared to an increase of 0.6% in June of last year.

The figures show that in the year to June, a decrease of 0.2% was recorded for goods, while the annual rate of inflation for services rose by 4.3%.

The CSO said that the main price changes during the month included a 1.1% increase in restaurant and hotel prices, a 0.7% increase in electricity and gas charges and a 0.5% increase in alcohol and tobacco prices.

These increases were partially offset by a 1.4% fall in the price of clothes and shoes.
