Builders say no leaks at aquatic centre

National Aquatic Centre - Rohcon completes inspection
National Aquatic Centre - Rohcon completes inspection

The war of words between the various parties involved in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin continued today.

The builders of the €62 million centre, Rohcon, said in a statement that there was no water leaking from the pools in the centre.

Rohcon said it completed its inspection of the facility last night and found there was no water loss through the swimming pools and no evidence of any subsidence.

It said the centre had been designed and built to the highest international standards.

The company condemned recent attempts to impugn the integrity of the building.

Rohcon said structural engineers URS, who examined the building, said any cracks which exist are not leaking, are not of a structural nature and are entirely normal for a structure of this type.

The firm that operates the centre, Dublin Waterworld, has dismissed Rohcon's claims.

It says it continues to discover further building and plant defects on a daily basis and wants Rohcon to agree to a survey of the pool and plant by an independent specialist engineer.

The claims and counter claims come as legal proceedings continue between the Government company which owns the centre, Campus and Stadium Ireland Development Ltd, and Dublin Waterworld.

CSID Ltd claims Dublin Waterworld has not paid rent and has not properly repaired and maintained the building. The case is due back in the High Court on Monday.
