94 killed by floods in India

At least 94 people have died and 200,000 were evacuated due to heavy rains and flash floods in India's western coastal state of Gujarat.

The floods have inundated scores of villages and water has overwhelmed residential suburbs of many towns.

Most of the 94 deaths occurred when adults and children were washed away by strong currents after dams overflowed.

Others were crushed when buildings collapsed or were buried in mudslides.

Around 200,000 people in the affected areas have been moved to higher ground.
