US troops feared dead after helicopter crash

All 17 troops on board a US helicopter which crashed in Afghanistan are now feared dead.

The US military has acknowledged that hostile fire probably brought down the helicopter which crashed in the eastern part of the country.

Afghan officials said the Chinook helicopter was hit by a rocket in Kunar province near the Pakistani border.

The aircraft was hit and crashed about 2 km away from its landing zone, said US military spokesman.

Earlier, a Taliban commander said his men had shot down the aircraft while it was flying close to the ground.
