The online market website eBay has officially launched a dedicated site for Irish buyers and sellers.

ebay.ie will specifically list items of interest to Irish people allowing people to see all prices for items across the globe in euros.

The managing director of ebay.ie, David Jesse, said the website will allow Irish people to buy and sell anything that is legal and in good taste.

Currently around 200,000 Irish people are customers on eBay sites. The company said it hopes that having a dedicated Irish website will allow that figure to grow substantially.

At present the most popular items bought and sold by Irish people on eBay are computers, music and 'collectibles'.

Ireland is now the 12th European country to have its own eBay site.

At any one time, eBay says it has 50 million items available online in 50,000 categories.
