Former JMSE executive James Gogarty has applied for €3.5m in legal costs as result of his appearance at the Planning and Payments Tribunal.

He was one of ten parties who co-operated with the inquiry that made submissions this morning before current Chairman Judge Alan Mahon.

Brian O'Moore SC for Mr Gogarty said his client had been under a tremendous cloud for four years battling against allegations of bribery, perjury, theft and tax evasion because he assisted the tribunal.

Mr Gogarty was completely vindicated by then Chairman Mr Justice Fergus Flood and Mr O'Moore said it would be grossly inequitable if he did not get all his costs.

Other parties who applied through their legal representatives included Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern, who wants €270,000, and financier Dermot Desmond, who has applied for €71,000.

A number of companies and public bodies have applied for costs, including RTÉ, which is seeking €490,000 for costs incurred during the Century module.

Mr Mahon said at the start of submissions that he will give his rulings early next week.
