The Minister for the Marine, Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher has announced a review of the fishing industry intended to help resolve the problems of the Scallop fishery at Kilmore Quay.
The dispute caused a blockade of Rosslare ferry port and disruption of sailings last Monday.
An existing decommissioning programme to remove boats from the white fish fleet is to be examined to see if it can be extended to scallop boats.
The review will be carried out by the former head of the IDA, Padraic White, who has already carried out previous studies of fishing for the Government.
He is to report by the end of this month. Minister Gallagher said the tight time scale was because he acknowledged the difficulties facing fishing communities.
Fishermen in Kilmore quay expressed caution about the review but said they would consider it before deciding on any further action.
They were protesting because of cut backs on the number of days they can go scallop fishing which they say is causing them such huge losses that many of them face bankruptcy and the repossession of their boats because of financial difficulties.
Meanwhile, fish processors warned that 500 factory jobs in the Kilmore Quay area of Co Wexford will be lost if the Government does not respond.
