The Serbian government has denied newspaper reports that it knows where war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic is hiding.
The Danas newspaper reported that the former Bosnian Serb commander was hiding out in a large town in Serbia, and the paper said it knew where.
But Vladeta Jankovic, an adviser to Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, denied the reports. 'With full authority, I can deny the Serbian government has any such knowledge or that it has been given such information from anyone. These reports are completely unfounded,' he said.
Earlier, a senior American official said Serbia was making serious efforts to send Mladic to a United Nations War Crimes Tribunal on charges of genocide.
The US Undersecretary of State, Nicholas Burns, said Washington was confident that the former Bosnian Serb military chief would soon be captured.
Mr Burns was speaking in Belgrade after meeting the Serbian President, Boris Tadic, and Mr Kostunica.
