Ex-footballer George Best has been arrested in connection with an allegation of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a 34-year-old woman.
Mr Best, 59, walked into a police station in Surrey at lunchtime to be interviewed about an allegation brought by Vicky Pope that he attacked her as she tried to stop him getting into the home of his former lover Gina Devivo on Tuesday.
It emerged soon after that Best had been arrested and was being held in custody inside the police station.
Earlier, Best's agent said the former footballer categorically denied any allegation of assault.
