The President, Mary McAleese, is to hold a one-to-one meeting with Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in London later this week.
The two heads of state will meet in the city’s Prosby Hall at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of Co-Operation Ireland on Thursday.
As well as attending the event, it is understood that President McAleese and the British queen will hold a private meeting.
