The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Renewal, Noel Ahern, has announced that departmental approval has been given to all the five-year action plans for social and affordable housing drafted by the local authorities.
Mr Ahern said this meant that local authorities now have plans in place to use the substantial resources made available to deliver quality housing in a manner that breaks cycles of disadvantage and dependency.
The minister said that this year alone the Government will spend some €2 billion on housing measures.
