The commander of the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba has said investigators identified five incidents where copies of the Koran were treated with disrespect by American personnel.
Brigadier-General Jay Hood said the cases involved four military guards and one interrogator. He said that three staff were being disciplined.
However, he denied that guards had thrown a copy of the Koran down a toilet as had been alleged and later retracted by Newsweek magazine.
