Twelve workers who were trapped in a collapsed railway tunnel for six days in southwest China were pulled out alive this morning.
The workers were shown on television with their eyes covered by black cloth to protect them from the daylight as they emerged from the tunnel in Qujing, Yunnan province.
Some walked out unaided, despite their ordeal, and were embraced by waiting family members before being whisked away to hospital.
They had been trapped since last Tuesday after the tunnel they were building caved in.
