Daly to highlight road taxation issues

The new President of the Irish Motor Industry has said he will use his term in office to highlight the crippling burden of taxation on road users.

Noel Daly said motorists pay almost €4.8bn in road tax annually for a transport network that is one of the worst in Europe.

He said Ireland has one of the highest motor taxation regimes in Europe, garnering a huge return for the Government. He added that Irish motorists must contend with one of worst transport infrastructure systems.

Mr Noel said investment in road infrastructure is a fraction of the road tax revenue garnered annually.
