A United States army reservist convicted of taking part in the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad has been sentenced by a military jury to six months in jail.

Sabrina Harman, 27, appeared in some of the most notorious photographs taken at the jail, including one in which she posed with a pyramid of naked detainees.

Harman, who could have faced up to five and a half years in prison, told the court she took full responsibility for her actions and apologised to all the detainees.

She is one of three women to have been implicated in the Abu Ghraib scandal.
