The Irish Hospice Foundation has said thousands of patients are dying in hospitals each year without privacy, confidentiality or dignity.
The organisation says staff often have to care for people who are dying in overcrowded public wards and deal with distressed families on busy corridors.
At a national conference on death and dying, the foundation has called for radical changes in hospital practices and facilities.
