With the count in Northern Ireland’s local council elections now complete, the DUP is the largest party at council level, with 182 seats.

That represents a gain of 52 seats from the previous council standings.

The DUP's gains have come largely at the expense of the Ulster Unionists, who have lost 39 seats and finish with 115 councillors.

On the nationalist side the SDLP has lost 16 seats and now has 101 councillors, 25 less than Sinn Féin.

The SDLP remains the largest party in Derry, while Sinn Féin is the largest single group in Belfast.

The Alliance Party will again hold the balance of power at Belfast City Hall where it has four seats.

Among those to top the poll in their respective wards today were Sinn Féin's Alex Maskey and the DUP's Diane Dodds.

Among the major casualties was the Sinn Féin Mayor of Derry, Gerry O'Hara, who lost his seat to a party colleague.
