The political landscape in Northern Ireland has been redrawn, after the Ulster Unionist vote collapsed dramatically in the Westminster elections.
David Trimble was his party's biggest casualty, as it lost four of its five seats. David Simpson took Trimble's seat for the DUP by a margin of more than 5,000 votes.
The DUP has secured nine seats, with Sinn Féin taking five, the SDLP three and the Ulster Unionists one.
DUP leader Ian Paisley was elected in the North Antrim constituency with 25,156 votes. The party's deputy leader, Peter Robinson, has been returned in Belfast East, securing almost 50% of the vote.
Jeffrey Donaldson held his seat in Lagan Valley with 23,289 votes.
The DUP's Nigel Dodds has won the seat in Belfast North, while his party colleague, Sammy Wilson, won in East Antrim. Gregory Campbell has also secured the seat in East Londonderry for the DUP.
William McCrea and Iris Robinson took seats for the DUP in South Antrim and Strangford respectively.
Mark Durkan of the SDLP was elected in Foyle with 21,119 votes, ahead of Sinn Fein's Mitchel McLaughlin on 15,162.
There are reports that some DUP supporters may have given votes to Mr Durkan.
Elsewhere, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams retained his seat in Belfast West. Mr Adams polled more than 24,000 votes, securing a majority of 19,000. Martin McGuinness retained his seat in Mid Ulster with a vote of 21,641.
Sinn Féin's Michelle Gildernew triumphed in Fermanagh and South Tyrone, while the party's vice president, Pat Doherty, has retained his seat in West Tyrone. Sinn Féin's Conor Murphy has been elected with 20,965 votes in Newry and Armagh.
In Belfast South, the SDLP's Alasdair McDonnell was declared the winner with 10,339 votes. Mr McDonnell said the vote showed that tribal politics was not the only way forward in Northern Ireland. Eddie McGrady of the SDLP has also held his seat in South Down with a vote of 21,557.
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, said that now the elections are over, it is time to move beyond the current stalemate and to get on with the 'vital project' of fully implementing the Good Friday Agreement.
