A pocket watch owned by an Irish immigrant who survived the sinking of the Titanic has sold for three times its asking price at an auction in the US.
The 18-carat gold watch stopped ticking on the day the ship sunk when it was damaged as Nora Keane from Co Limerick was rescued from the disaster by lifeboat.
It sold for €19,194 ($24,675) at an auction in Massachusetts featuring dozens of items salvaged from the doomed luxury liner, which sank on its maiden voyage in 1912.
Ms Keane had emigrated to Pennsylvania and was returning to the US on the Titanic after a four-month visit to Castle Connell, Co Limerick, to see her mother.
A total of €116,692 ($150,000) was raised at the auction, which also saw the only known example of a third class menu from the ship sell for €34,735 ($44,650).
