The newly-elected parliament in Iraq has approved a cabinet of ministers, forming the country's first democratically elected government in more than 50 years.
By what is described as an overwhelming majority, Iraq's 275-seat National Assembly approved the list of names put forward by the Prime Minister, Ibrahim Jaafari.
The formation of the government ends three months of political impasse.
However, several of the 36 ministries will be occupied by acting ministers until final names are decided.
The parliamentary speaker said Mr Jaafari will be acting Defence Minister and Ahmad Chalabi will be acting Oil Minister.
Mr Jaafari's failure to name permanent appointments to the defence, oil, electricity, human rights and industry ministries underlines how divided Iraq's new leaders remain over the shape of the government.
The Prime Minister said he expected to name permanent ministers to those five ministries in the coming days.
In all, the government will have 31 ministries, four deputy prime ministers and the prime minister himself. There is also a presidency council of three - a president and two deputies.
