The Taoiseach has told the annual Fianna Fáil 1916 commemoration at Arbour Hill that rebuilding trust in Northern Ireland will not be quick and will not be easy.
Mr Ahern said he was still awaiting an answer from republicans to the questions the Government had posed on paramilitarism and criminality.
Delivering the annual Arbour Hill Address at the 1916 plot in the cemetery, he said that democracy had historically been a fundamental goal of true republicanism.
