The French President, Jacques Chirac, has said a rejection of the proposed new EU Constitution in next month's referendum would make France the black sheep of Europe.
Mr Chirac was speaking in a live television debate last night.
Opinion polls have, without exception, shown majorities of up to 55% opposed to the treaty, although a large number of people have said they are still undecided.
President Chirac warned that a No vote against the new constitution would be a disaster for Europe and would weaken France.
The new constitution is designed to streamline institutions to make decision-making easier in the enlarged EU.
