The US Congressman Peter King has said he believes the IRA will disband.
Speaking on RTE Radio, the Republican representative for New York described this week's statement from Gerry Adams as very positive.
Mr Adams called on the IRA to give up their armed struggle and to achieve their aims by political and democratic means.
Mr King, a long time supporter of Sinn Féin, said the IRA should disband as soon as possible.
