More than 40 US soldiers have been wounded in a battle with insurgents who attacked the Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad.
A spokesman said many of the injuries were light, but several were serious.
Up to 60 insurgents are thought to have taken part in the attack.
They rammed a suicide car bomb into a perimeter building and then fired a variety of weapons at the jail before being driven off.
