New figures from the Central Statistics Office says the Dublin region had the highest disposable income per person in the country in 2002, being 13.4% above the State average.
The disposable income per person of the Border region was 10.2% below the State average, and was the lowest of the eight regional authority areas.
The CSO lists the regions as Border, Midland, West, Dublin, Mid East, Mid West, South East and South West.
The CSO says that in 2002 the disposable income per person in the Southern and Eastern areas was 3% above the State average, while the corresponding figure in the Border, Midland and Western region was 8.2% below the average.
The cap of 11.2 points between the two regions represents a decrease on the gap of 12 points in 2001 and 13.4 in 2000.
Only four counties had an average disposable income per person in excess of the State average. These were Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Limerick.
Six counties had disposable income per person below 90% of the State average, while another ten counties had 90-95% of the average.
