President Mary McAleese has left Dublin for a ten-day official visit to Japan and Korea.
She will spend six days in Japan before travelling on to South Korea where she will be awarded an honorary degree.
She is accompanied by her husband, Martin, and the Minister of State for Education, Síle de Valera.
