China has outlined the terms of a new bill which would allow it to use force to prevent any attempt by Taiwan to declare independence.
The Chinese government said such measures would only be used as a last resort, if all peaceful efforts to achieve reunification failed.
Beijing has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since their split at the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949, and has threatened military action if the island formally declares statehood.
