A former commissioner of London's Metropolitan Police has claimed there are nearly 200 al-Qaeda trained terrorists operating in Britain.
In a Sunday newspaper article, Sir John Stevens says the threat of a terrorist attack on Britain is very real.
He urges the government to go ahead as quickly as possible with implementing controversial new proposals for terrorist suspects.
The proposals include house arrest, curfews, tagging and bans on the use of the internet and telephones.
