The Secretary General of the Department Of Transport has said that said 300,000 people per week are using the LUAS, and that one in every five of these is a former Dublin Bus user.

Julie O'Neill made the comments before the Dáil's Public Accounts Committee this morning.

She also said that 13 new quality bus corridors could be up and running by the end of the year in Dublin.

On the question of privatisation of the Dublin Bus Service, she said the Department of Transport needed a clear new proposal from Dublin Bus, and was involved in talks on reform with Dublin Bus and the Trade unions.

She said a feasibility study was being carried out on the possibility of an outer ring road for the greater Dublin area.
