United Nation peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo have killed more than 50 fighters belonging to a militia blamed for the deaths of several Bangladeshi soldiers.

The UN force used ground troops, helicopters and armoured vehicles in an operation against the Nationalist and Integrationist Front militia.

The fighting happened near the town of Bunia in the northeastern region of Ituri.
