Manchester Airport was shut for a short time this morning following a report that a Pakistani airliner caught fire while refuelling.

Three hundred and forty people had to be evacuated from the plane, which police later said had actually overheated, resulting in smoke.

The Boeing 777 from Toronto landed at Manchester at 9.03am for refuelling on its way to Karachi.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said that a number of people suffered minor injuries.
