Livingstone digs heels in over comment

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has refused to apologise for comparing a newspaper reporter to a concentration camp guard.

Mr Livingstone has been under pressure from Jewish leaders and politicians, including British Prime Minister Tony Blair, to issue a formal apology for making the comment to a Jewish reporter from the London Evening Standard.

He said, however, he had not intended to cause offence to London's Jewish population.

His remarks are being investigated by a local government watchdog.
