The people of Spain have overwhelmingly backed the new European Constitution in today's referendum.
The Interior Ministry has said returns based on more than 90% of the ballots showed that 76.5% voted in favour.
Voter turnout was estimated at 41.5%, more than 4% lower than in European Parliament elections last June.
Commenting on the result, the Spanish Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, said his compatriots had shown their fellow EU citizens the way ahead.
It is the first test of support for the constitution, which will go to a referendum in 11 European countries including Ireland over the next 18 months.
Nearly 35 million voters were eligible to cast their ballots in today's vote.
All of Spain's main political parties had campaigned for a Yes vote.
