A threatened three-day unofficial strike at ESB has been averted.
In a statement issued this evening, the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey, confirmed that Joe La Cumbre would remain as Deputy Chairman of the ESB.
Mr La Cumbre had been at the centre of a boardroom row with ESB Chairman Tadhg O'Donoghue.
Minister Dempsey announced that the role and responsibilities of the Deputy Chairman position is to be reviewed in accordance with the current best practice in corporate governance.
He said he welcomed the commitment by all concerned to remove the threat of industrial action and to allow this process to proceed.
The review of the Deputy Chairman position will be undertaken by the Chief Executive of the Irish Stock Exchange, Tom Healy.
