The report of an investigation into the death of a two-year-old girl the day after her scheduled heart operation was cancelled is due to go to Cabinet tomorrow.
RTÉ News has learned that the Tánaiste and Minister for Health, Mary Harney, has received the independent report into the death of Roisín Ruddle from Limerick in July 2003.
Roisín was sent home from Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin, after her operation was cancelled due to what the hospital said was a shortage of intensive care nurses.
The three-person inquiry into her death comprised management consultant, David Hanly, a British paediatric cardiologist and a director of nursing at Cork University Hospital.
The child's family had called for an independent inquiry into the tragedy.
