The wreckage of an Afghan airliner that went missing with 104 people on board has been found east of the capital, Kabul.

A Western security source said the Kam Air Boeing 737 was found to the northeast of the city but did not say if there were any survivors. 13 foreigners were among those on board.

Nine Turks, an Italian and three Americans were confirmed as being onboard while six Russians and two Afghan crew members were also on the plane.

NATO troops and helicopters had been searching for the aircraft which went missing yesterday afternoon.

An official from the privately-owned company said the airliner was on a flight from the western city of Herat to Kabul.

The plane could not land at Kabul's airport because of snowstorms. It later requested and was given permission to land at Peshawar in Pakistan, but never arrived.
