The Taoiseach has said he is not in favour of imposing sanctions against Sinn Féin even if the Independent Monitoring Commission says that the IRA was responsible for the Northern Bank raid.
Speaking to journalists, Bertie Ahern also said that he had received no indications from security and intelligence services here that the IRA is preparing to go back to war, as reported in a Sunday newspaper yesterday.
Members of the Independent Monitoring Commission have been meeting the Taoiseach at Government Buildings.
The commission includes Lord Alderdice and former Secretary at the Department of Justice, Joe Brosnan.
It is due to issue a special report within the next week on the bank robbery.
The commission could recommend the imposition of financial sanctions against Sinn Féin if it says the IRA was responsible.
