At least 15 people have been killed and 30 wounded in a blast outside the headquarters of a major Kurdish political party in the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar.
Earlier today nine people were killed in a multiple car bomb attack.
In a closely coordinated attack, three suicide car bombers hit the town of Riyadh, a Sunni Arab area southwest of the northern city of Kirkuk.
Two explosives-laden cars blew up simultaneously close to an Iraqi army post and police station and a third vehicle detonated minutes later on a nearby highway, a local police chief said.
Four Iraqi policemen, two Iraqi soldiers and three civilians were killed, and at least 12 people were wounded, police said.
31 US soldiers killed in helicopter crash
Also today a US helicopter crashed near Ar Rutbah in western Iraq, killing 31 US soldiers, the biggest single loss of American life in Iraq since the 2003 invasion.
It is not clear whether the crash was the result of an accident or whether the helicopter came under attack.
US officials also said four US Marines were killed in action in Anbar province, and an American soldier was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack north of Baghdad.
Speaking today in Washington US President George Bush called on Iraqi people to defy insurgents by voting in Sunday's elections.
