An Irish super trawler has sunk at a port in Norway.

All 11 crewmembers managed to escape before the 60-metre MV Paula, from Killybegs in Co Donegal, flooded and sank alongside a pier in Malloy.

The trawler, which was worth up to €15 million, sank 15 minutes after an alarm on board the vessel went off, just after 7am this morning. The skipper of the vessel said it is about 50% submerged.

An investigation will be carried out to establish why the trawler sank.

The MV Paula, one of the biggest pelagic boats based at Killybegs, had docked at the harbour last night with a catch of mackerel on board.
