Figures released by the Standards in Public Office show that President Mary McAleese spent over €45,000 on her election campaign.

Even though there was no popular vote, Mrs McAleese raised over €92,000 in donations from within the State, of which she retained €31,000.

Donations from outside the jurisdiction totalled over €45,000,  of which she retained €15,000.

President McAleese is entitled to a reimbursement of election expenses, but her agent told the Standards Commission that she would not be making any claim.

In its report the commission acknowledged the co-operation it received from Mrs McAleese and her husband, and from her election agent, former Fine Gael TD Sean Barrett.
