Court martial over Iraqi abuse claims delayed

The third day of the court martial of three British soldiers who allegedly abused Iraqi prisoners has been delayed for legal reasons.

The hearing is taking place at a British military base in the German city of Osnabrück.

In London, it is reported that British Prime Minister Tony Blair's spokesman told reporters the move was due to a 'defence application' but would not elaborate.

Photographs published this week - some including the soldiers - appeared to show naked detainees being forced to simulate sex acts.

British newspapers also published photographs showing an Iraqi man dangling from a forklift truck and a soldier with his foot raised over a bound Iraqi.
