Beet growers in Leinster are demanding that the Sugar Company compensate them for the cost of transporting beet to Mallow - following the closure of the Carlow sugar factory.
Meanwhile SIPTU say they are trying to get the company to reverse the closure decision.
Angry Workers and farmers associated with Carlow sugar factory are now planning what to do next, following last Wednesday’s announcement that the factory is to close with the loss of 190 permanent jobs.
Even though there had been speculation that the axe could be about to fall on the factory in Carlow, workers and farmers had been hoping that it would remain open for at least another year.
