Tourism organisations have outlined their plans for tourism this year. Almost 6.5 million people visited Ireland in 2004.
Overseas visitor numbers are expected to grow by around 5% this year. Revenue from overseas visitors this year is expected to be around €4.4bn.
Dublin has increased its market share with 20% of all overseas holiday visits consisting of Dublin City breaks.
Fáilte Ireland Chief Executive, Shaun Quinn, said Dublin must focus on servicing the many thousands of business visitors to the city and on building on its cultural and literary heritage.
