A row has broken out in Britain after Prince Harry was photographed in a Nazi uniform at a fancy dress party.

The Sun newspaper has published a front-page photo showing the prince, who is third in line to the throne, wearing a swastika armband.

The newspaper said he had attended a friend's private party in Wiltshire last weekend wearing the desert uniform of a Second World War German soldier.

The 20-year-old prince has said he was very sorry if he caused offence or embarrassment to anyone.

The event took place two weeks before his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II attends Holocaust Memorial Day at the former Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland to mark the 60th anniversary of the camp’s liberation.

A spokesman for the Board Of Deputies Of British Jews, Gerry Lewis, said he believed what the Prince did had been a gross misjudgement and in very bad taste.
