Sudanese peace deal - Thousands join in celebrations

Thousands of people have been taking part in celebrations in Sudan today to mark the signing of a peace accord between the Sudanese government and southern rebels.

The agreement, signed in Kenya yesterday, marks the end of more than 20 years of civil war and bloodshed.

The biggest celebrations are taking place in the capital, Khartoum, which is home to more than four million refugees.

Leaders from around Africa have praised both sides for bringing an end to the Sudanese war but warn the plan must now be implemented.
