It has been confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs that the body of Dublin woman Eilis Finnegan has been found in Thailand.

Ms Finnegan is the first Irish victim of the tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean.

Ms Finnegan, a 27-year-old former flight attendant from Ballyfermot, was on holiday with her boyfriend on Phi Phi Island.

They had arrived there just 40 minutes before the tidal wave hit.

Ms Finnegan's boyfriend and her family have been searching for her since the disaster.

The Finnegan family issued a statement tonight confirming that her body had been discovered in Thailand today.
