The US military has claimed that they have killed 25 Iraqi insurgents in the flashpoint city of Mosul.
Clashes broke out today after rebels set off a pair of car bombs.
The insurgents detonated car bombs against a US patrol and a combat outpost and then about 50 fighters launched an assault on the outpost, firing small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars, according to US Lt Colonel Paul Hastings.
"Close air support was called in. Initial estimates are 25 enemy
killed," Hastings said.
15 US troops were also reported injured in the attack, which comes just over a week after 22 people died in an attack on a US base nearby.
