Gardaí in Co Kilkenny say they have ruled out suspicious circumstances in relation to the death of a man in a cell in Kilkenny City Garda Station overnight.
Father-of-six John Delaney, who was in his mid-60s and from Newpark Close in the city, was found dead in his cell during a routine check at around 5.30am this morning.
A post mortem examination was carried out on his body at Waterford Regional hospital this evening.
Following the post mortem, gardaí say they are satisfied that Mr Delaney did not die in suspicious circumstances.
However, they say they are awaiting further toxicology results before establishing the exact cause of death.
It is understood these toxicology reports may take a few weeks.
Mr Delaney was arrested at his home just before midnight for an alleged public order offence.
He did not resist the arrest and was co-operative with gardaí.
