The African Union has said Sudan's army has ignored a deadline to end fighting in the war-torn region of Darfur, and has instead engaged in a fresh battle with rebels.
The AU and western ambassadors had threatened to abandon peace talks in Nigeria's capital if yesterday's 5pm deadline was not met.
On Friday, the AU gave the two sides a 24-hour deadline to end ceasefire breaches after a massive military build-up in Darfur over the last two weeks.
