The British cabinet met this morning in the aftermath of the resignation of the Home Secretary, David Blunkett.
Mr Blunkett left his job after being found to have been involved in speeding up a visa application for the nanny of his former lover.
He now returns to the backbenches. His successor at the Home Office is Charles Clarke, the former Education Secretary.
Mr Clarke is replaced at Education by the Northern Ireland-born Ruth Kelly, who at 36 is the youngest member of Mr Blair's cabinet.
